Quincy Mayor Announces Balanced Budget Presentation Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

QUINCY — May 12, 2020 — Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch previewed a balanced municipal budget set for City Council review the following Monday, during a May 12 televised update from Old Town Hall. Koch, joined by City Council President Nina Liang, reported 1,037 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 94 deaths, and 471 recoveries in Quincy, while noting that the week-over-week rate of new cases was declining. Massachusetts was nearing 80,000 total cases statewide at the time. Koch attributed residents' compliance with distancing and mask requirements for the positive trend, saying "the percentage of increase is dropping each day, each week." Liang reported that council Zoom meetings were running smoothly and thanked first responders for participating in drive-by celebrations for residents. No budget figures were disclosed ahead of Monday's formal presentation.
