Quincy Unveils $14 Million Forbes Hill Park and Golf Course Rehabilitation

QUINCY — October 3, 2024 — Quincy officials tour a $14 million rehabilitation of Forbes Hill Neighborhood Park and Furnace Brook Golf Course. City Council President and Ward 3 Councilor Ian Kane and Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Dave Murphy walked through the three-part project on Quincy's community access TV, highlighting a new regulation basketball court, a tennis and pickleball court, a community-requested playground roughly 90 percent complete, and new drainage infrastructure to address historic runoff. The project's centerpiece, a new golf course clubhouse built by contractor G&R to replace a century-old structure, is expected to be handed over to the city in late January 2025, with golf simulator operations beginning in February and full golf season resuming in April. The city projects the simulator lounge will generate approximately $300,000 per year. Health Commissioner Marley Cassley separately described a rodent control program using Clancy Brothers pest control, brought in to manage burrow disruption caused by the building excavation.
